スイミング・カーニバル

２月１１日にWest Pymble Swimming PoolでDavidson High SchoolのSwimming Carnivalがありました。クロールや平泳ぎ、背泳ぎなどのレースがあり、３人のICET studentsも参加しました。オーストラリアの生徒はみんな速くて驚きました。通常のレースが終わったあと、１２年生の全員が参加する、浮き輪やボ ディボードなどいろいろなものを使ってプールの中を大群でゴールを目指す出し物がありました。生徒たちはみんな自分のチームの色のとても派手な水着を着て いたり、チームカラーで顔や体に文字を書いたり、髪の毛にスプレーをかけたりと日本との違いを大いに感じました。また、サーフボードを手でこいでゴールす るレースもありました。とても速い人がたくさんいました。そのあと、５０ｍ泳いで、サーフボードを手でこいで、プールの周りを走って帰ってくるというトラ イアスロンのようなレースもありました。とても疲れるだろうなと思いました。そしてそのあとにはチーム対抗のリレーがあったのでみんな自分のチームを応援 しました。最後には先生たちのリレーもあり、学校全体が一体になって盛り上がりました。このSwimming Carnivalはたくさんの人たちが楽しめたいい日になりました。

Swimming Carnival

On Thursday 11^th February 2010, we had the swimming carnival as a school event. We went to West Pymble Swimming Pool. The day was favoured with very fine weather. From ICET, Hikaru Kawai, Taichi Funo and Taiki Nakaya entered the 50m and 100m freestyle races. Hikaru finished second in the 100m race and he won the second prize. We were really surprised at the result, and he was also pleased with his own results. Of course, the other 2 students did very well as well. We were deeply moved by their swim. Well done, Hikaru, Taichi and Taiki!

ホストファミリー

オーストラリアでの新しい家族と会うまで、期待と不安でいっぱいでした。でも、会ってみたら、向こうからハグをしてくれて、とても話しやすくて、す ぐに馴染むことができて、すぐに不安はなくなりました。ホストファミリーとあった瞬間、オーストラリアの生活が楽しくなる気がして、これからの生活がとて も楽しみになりました。ホストファミリーと２ヶ月過ごしてきて、だんだんと家のルールややらなければいけないことなどわかるようになったので、少し心に余 裕ができ始め、ホストと会話をしたり、お手伝いをしたりなどといい関係を築けるようになってきました。はじめは英語を話しても一言で終わったりしていたけ れど、最近では長文で話せるようになってきて、ホストとの会話もだんだんと増えてきました。毎日楽しい生活をホストとともに過ごしています。

ホストとのある１日（あんな）

• 朝:朝食中にお話・一緒にランチを作る
• 昼:スーパーへのお買い物・プールで遊ぶ
• 夜:夜ご飯を一緒に作る・ディナー中にお話・DVDやテレビを一緒に見る

Host Families

We were filled with expectations and worries until we met our host families. When we met them, we felt quite relieved because they were very kind and nice people! They talked to us with big smiles and hugged us. We are very happy with our host families. We now have spent about 3 months with them. They are so kind and they teach us many things. We are having a great time with them.

• Morning—talking and cooking lunch together
• Afternoon—shopping and swimming in the pool
• Night— cooking dinner together, talking during dinner and watching DVDs and TV.

オーストラリア到着！

日本を１月２２日に出国し、約１０時間という長い旅を空の上で過ごして、１月２３日にオーストラリアに到着しました。飛行機から降りた瞬間、“ムッ”とした熱気に、“オーストラリアに着たんだ！”という実感がわいてきました。

オーストラリアの海はやっぱり日本と違ってとてもBeautifulでした。水は青くて、砂はさらさらで――また、サーフィンをしている人や、ジェットスキーをしている人もたくさんいて、日本では見ることができないものを見ることができました。

Davidson High Schoolの一員となって毎日楽しく生活を送っています。リセスやランチタイムに、オーストラリアの友達と会話をして、英語をこつこつ頑張っています！日本にいたときと変わらず、毎日楽しい日々をオーストラリアでも過ごしています！

15 New ICET Students in Australia

We left Japan on the 22^nd January 2010. Our flight from Osaka to Sydney was about 10 hours. We arrived at Sydney airport on the 23^rd January 2010. Our first impression of Australia was ‘It is too hot!!!’

The Australian sea is more beautiful than the Japanese sea. It has blue water and white beaches, people surfing and jet skiing.

I was surprised at many things. I saw many things which I wouldn’t have seen in Japan.

We are having a good time being part of Davidson High School. We enjoy talking with Australian students at recess and lunchtime. We are practising English every day and, little by little, our English has improved since we have arrived!

オープン・ハウス

３月５日にOpen House がDavidson High Schoolで開かれました。私たちICETの生徒は日本料理、岡山の踊り（うらじゃ）、茶道、習字などの日本の伝統文化を現地の先生、生徒たちに紹介し ました。

一番人気だったのは、日本料理で、私たちはやきそばとおこのみやきを作り、ランチタイムが始まるとすぐに行列ができてすぐに完売しました。。雨も 降っている中でしたが、岡山の踊り「うらじゃ」を披露しました。オーストラリア人の人たちに見てもらえるのか不安でしたが、約一ヶ月前から練習を始めたか いもあってか、全員がひとつになって気持ちよく踊ることができました。ダンスが進むにつれてたくさんの人がきてくれて、私たちのダンスを一緒に踊ってくれ て、とても盛り上がり、嬉しかったです。

茶道や習字のコーナーにもたくさんの人が集まって興味をもってもらえました。習字ではオーストラリア人の名前をカ タカナで書いてあげました。成功するのかとても不安だったけれど、最初から最後までたくさんの人たちに楽しんでもらえました。オープン・ハウスを通して、 たくさんのオーストラリア人と触れ合うことができ、日本のことをもっと知ってもらうことができました。

ICET Open House: Japanese Cultural Day

Open House is a day when the ICET students run some activities to display Japanese culture to the Davidson students. It was held at Lunch time on 5th of March. The ICET students cooked and sold Japanese food (yakisoba and okonomiyaki), painted Japanese characters (calligraphy), performed a dance (called Uraja) and a tea ceremony.

The Japanese food was sold out at once in spite of making a lot. It looks like Australians might like Japanese food! We danced the Uraja in the centre of the play ground with the Australian students watching. We had started practice for it a month ago, so we danced well. We were so glad that the Australian students enjoyed our dance. Also, the students of Davidson High were very interested in the tea ceremony and calligraphy. When we wrote their name with Katakana (Japanese characters), they seemed to like it.

We took pleasure in organising Open House and were glad that we made friends and were able to interact with the students from Davidson High.

オープン・ナイト

３月２日にOpen Nightがありました。Open NightはDavidson High Schoolを地域の人々に紹介する Open Schoolのようなものです。 Open Nightにはたくさんの人が集まり、ICETでは様々な出し物をして日本の文化を紹介しました。剣玉、習字、折り紙、箸を使ってお菓子を摘むゲームをし ました。

参加したICETの生徒の感想の一部です。

• 「箸を使ったゲームではLolly（グミなどのお菓子）つかみをしました。上手な子もいれば苦手な子もいて様々でした。苦手な子とは一緒にやって、触れ合うことができました。」詩織
• 「僕たちは習字をやりました。子供たちに習字を知ってもらうことができたのでよかったです。」博正
• 「僕たちは剣玉をしました。たくさんの人たちと話せたし子供たちが喜んでくれてよかったです。」太一

子供たちにたくさんの日本の文化を紹介することができたし、楽しんでもらえてよかったです。私たちも楽しく充実した時間を過ごすことができました。

Open Night

Davidson High School had Open Night on the 2^nd of March. The aim of Open Night was to introduce our school to the local people, especially to those whose children are in primary schools. A lot of people came to our school and enjoyed the night. The ICET students introduced Japanese culture, for example, kendama, origami, calligraphy and a chopstick game.

Here is the feedback from some of the ICET students below.

• ‘I ran a chopstick game in which kids had to pick up lollies with chopsticks. Some children did very well and some didn’t. We played the game together and had a good time.’ Shiori
• ‘I did calligraphy. We are glad that the children learned about our calligraphy a little bit.’ Hiromasa
• ‘I did kendama. I talked to many people. The children looked happy and it also made me happy.’ Taichi

We enjoyed Open Night because we introduced our culture to the children. We had a very good time!
